Arts Integration Resource

Here is another arts integration resource I found last year.  It is the website of an organization devoted entirely to integrating the arts into curriculum (Arts Integration Solutions).  They have a research section and teacher resources.  They also visit schools to help teachers and administrators integrate arts better into their curriculum (the schools become partner schools), and they have frequent workshops.  Unfortunately, they are located in Arizona, so that’s a bit of a let-down.  I wonder if there is anything like this closer to our school district.  Even if we can’t actually benefit from this resource in the full way they intended though, the website still has a plethora of ideas.  If you sign up for their mailing list, they will send you one or two arts integration ideas per week, or you can check their website often, because they have the same ideas posted right on the homepage.  They also have a search engine similar to the IRPs, where you can search by subject, grade level, and art form.  There are a LOT of ideas on this site.  So, if you’re stuck for ideas, this is a good place to start!

  1. Same for this one, it's a pain to try to access it without a hyperlink, or text that I can copy the link from. Thanks!

  2. There is a hyperlink, Jes! I just did it the way Kitchener told us to, where it's right in the title. You just have to click on it and it opens right to it.

  3. The hyperlink was visible but you have to know what it looks like. Sometimes they are easier to find when they are embedded in the text. I visited this site and sent them a message about how I might be involved in their important mission, beyond Arizona! One thing I realized as I taught this course this year is that there needs to be more written about the value of arts integration and where teachers might begin. I notice that there is more writing online about how arts integration can help deliver the common core standards that have emerged recently in the United States. Thanks for sharing this important link. The one thing I know about arts integration that I didn't see mentioned here is that the art-related learning needs to be as strong as the learning in the subject into which it is integrated. That was the main finding from my daughter's lit review on this topic, that she did for her master's in visual art education.
